Paul White's misfortune is to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it costs him dearly.

James Pattinson (1915-2009) was a full-time author who, despite having travelled throughout the world, lived in the remote village where he grew up. He wrote magazine articles, short stories and radio features as well as numerous novels including Crane and The Silent Voyage.

Kind of felt like one of those deals "I will do this one thing for a gorgeous woman" that men get into. Bruce starts looking into it and finds more than he really expected. No spoilers here.
I agree with the other reviewer than this book did not meet up with the quality of other Pattinson books had. It was enjoyable but I didn't find myself just dying to read it when I had free time. I give a 3 rating due to the book being somewhat enjoyable but not quite a perfect win with the novel.

This book begins with a missing person and an inspector looking into it to please his girlfriend. Interesting plot and ending'm
Diana White's brother Paul inherited a fortune from their aunt. He sees no point in getting a job, why should he? Living a playboy type existence he disappears on a remote Scottish Island and his yacht is found drifting in the ocean. Diana does not believe the official finding that Paul fell overboard so convinces a reluctant Bruce Standon to find out what really happened.
James Pattinson books vary drastically in quality and this although not his best isn't his worst effort either. Pattinson writes in an old man style where his characters use words that show Pattinson is obviously from a previous generation and not quite down with the lingo of today but this style does add something unique and enjoyable to his novels. High quality Pattinson novels worth your time and money are Skeleton Island, The Time of Your Life, Obituary for Howard Grey, Crane, The Animal Gang, Blind Date, The Golden Reef, Stride and Life Preserver.
